Planning to apply to top universities next year?

Join the University of Central Asia's (UCA)'s Summer Upgrading Camp, a two-week residential academic enrichment camp from 2 to 16 July 2017 for talented Grade 10 students living in Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan (2018 graduates).

Held at UCA's Campus in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan, this upgrading camp offers great opportunities to improve your English and maths and receive critical support to enter the university you want. This is also a unique opportunity to experience a world class campus and learn from highly qualified faculty.

Am I eligible?

The upgrading camp is open to all current Grade 10 students living in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The Admissions process is merit-based.

How do I apply?

To gain admission, you must submit an online application including (1) motivation letter, (2) skill testing questions in English and maths and (3) provide your current school grades. The deadline to apply is 1 May 2017.

Top candidates will be interviewed for the final selection. UCA requires students adhere to a policy of academic honesty when applying.


Where will the the UCA Summer Upgrading Camp be held?

The 2017 Summer Upgrading Camp will be hosted at UCA's Campus in Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic. Students, faculty and staff will be accommodated at the University's state of the art residences and provided with three meals a day and tea breaks.

UCA's Summer Upgrading Camp will offer a fully residential experience, where living and studying among fellow students and faculty facilitates learning and educational experiences. Students will have the chance to experience a world class campus, where our current undergraduate programmes are being offered.

What facilities are available at UCA's Naryn Campus?

UCA's Naryn Campus offers state of the art facilities:

How will I spend my time?

Building English and maths skills
Students will receive 44 hours of English, 22 hours of mathematics and 6 hours of science instruction. The UCA Summer Upgrading Camp curriculum is designed by international educational experts and adapted to fit the needs of Central Asian students. The goal is to upgrade students to attain internationally competitive levels in English and maths and ensure they are ready for a world-class university education.

Engage in non-academic activities
Other activities will be organised in English, giving participants an opportunity to practice their new skills. Activities will be offered such as sports, debating, drama, networking with university professors and excursions to explore Lakes Issyk-Kul and Son Kul.

Who will teach me?

An international team of experienced and engaging teachers will teach classes at the UCA Summer Upgrading Camp. UCA Faculty have extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). The Mathematics instructors are experienced in Central Asia and will ensure participants improve their grasp of mathematical concepts as well as problem solving skills.

Trained camp counsellors and assistant counsellors from Central Asia and across the globe will coordinate non-academic camp activities and provide supervision. Counsellors will assist students in improving their English skills and encouraging personal development.

What will I gain after completing the Summer Upgrading Camp?

In addition to new skills, a great experience and a personal mentor, all participants will receive a UCA certificate of participation for attending the camp.

How much does it cost?

The Summer Upgrading Camp fee is a standard rate that can be paid in any of the following national currencies:

  • Tajikistan: 1 200 TJS
  • Kyrgyz Republic: 10 500 KGS
  • Kazakhstan: 48 000 KZT

Transportation from designated pick up locations to and from the Naryn campus is provided by UCA, as well as accommodation and meals.

A limited amount of needs based financial assistance is available. Please send an email to outlining your request.

Is it safe?

The UCA Campus provides a high level of security and is committed to providing campers with a safe experience. Participants will benefit from 24-hour security and in-house access to medical care. They will also be under the constant supervision of a teacher, counsellor or camp administrator at any given time.

How will I get there? 

Transportation will be provided from designated pick up points in Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan to Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic.

Pick-up locations are listed below. Students across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan are encouraged to apply (but will be required to travel to their nearest pick-up location at their own cost).
