Madina’s current research focuses on sustainable development of Kazakhstan and Central Asia including cross-border issues, regional development and management of natural resources. She has worked as a consultant providing professional assessments for local government and international institutions in Kazakhstan on urban and regional planning, environmental protection and architecture since 2006. Madina advised various projects financed by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ). From 2014-2016, she was a Research Fellow with UCA’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration. Her research interests include sensitive approaches in urban and regional planning practice, urban and rural economic social and environmental sustainability.
