Lira has conducted research on migration and was a researcher for a Kyrgyz-German project, Interaction Human Environment in the Nut-Fruit forests of South Kyrgyzstan, conducting a survey on migration in Jalalabat Oblast. Lira also conducted surveys among migrants from Kyrgyz Republic in Moscow and Moscow Oblast of the Russian Federation funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. She has presented her findings widely and has published over ten articles including one in the Central Asian Survey. Since 2015, she joined UCA’s Mountain Societies Research Institute as a Research Fellow and previously worked as a Consultant with the International Organisation for Migration and was a Visiting Fellow at Moscow State University from 2007-2008.
