Serik’s areas of research include contentious politics in Europe, patterns of regional integration and medieval history of Europe. He has served as an Assistant Professor and Chair of European Studies at the American University of Central Asia, teaching history and politics of Europe and the European Union and developing curriculum and supervising graduate students. Serik works for the Kazakh-German University in Almaty, Kazakhstan and was previously a Research Assistant with the UCA Director General’s Office (2015- 2016).
