Roundtable: Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in Southern Kyrgyzstan
Following the events of June 2010, the University of Central Asia (UCA) in cooperation with the Small Business Development Centre (SBDC consult) conducted a series of interviews with entrepreneurs in Osh, Jalalabat, and Batken Oblasts to identify barriers for business expansion and areas of economic potential in Southern Kyrgyzstan. Research was supported by the United States Agency for International Development – Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID – OTI). The final report, titled Giving Entrepreneurs a Voice in the Future of Southern Kyrgyzstan (available in Kyrgyz, Russian and English), will be presented on 12 July 2011 at the “Roundtable on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in Southern Kyrgyzstan”.
The roundtable seeks to present the study findings and facilitate dialogue between participants while drawing on the observations and recommendations highlighted by entrepreneurs themselves. Participants in the Roundtable will represent government, business associations, financial institutions, civil society, experts, international donors and development practitioners. The Roundtable will feature a panel comprised of entrepreneurs from Osh, Jalalabat and Batken, joined by Buazhar Abdykadyrova, Microfinance Specialist, and a Regional Development Specialist to discuss their own experiences, challenges and strategies for improvement.
Kyrgyz, Russian and English. Simultaneous translation will be available in Kyrgyz, Russian and English.
