Pastoralism in Central Asia 2011 Symposium

Date: 11 June 2011

Organized by MSRI in partnership with the National Centre of Competence in Research North-South, the symposium:

  • Provided a forum for scientists, development practitioners, policy makers, and herders to present and discuss current conditions, relevant opportunities, and innovative approaches and tools to support a modern pastoralism in the region. 
  • Brought together a range of stakeholders, including herders and rural inhabitants; scientists and academics; policy makers and government representatives; development practitioners and NGO representatives; and media representatives.
  • Included presentations on pastoralism science, policy and development practice.
  • Provided a unique opportunity to ex­perience different pastoral settings along a North-South transect linking the northern Tien Shan with high altitude summer pastures and southern pastures near Naryn.
