Khorog, Tajikistan

UCA's undergraduate campus in Tajikistan is located in Khorog, 2,100 metres above sea level on a site gifted by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. UCA's School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) operates a Town Campus learning centre in Khorog.

UCA Khorog Campus

Phase I construction of the UCA Khorog campus was completed in 2017, and includes an academic block, laboratory building, student life building, and residences. The Khorog Campus houses a library, classrooms, a computer lab, student common spaces, dining hall, administrative offices and faculty reception, offices and residences. Each UCA campus features secure, modular dormitories, and athletic facilities including a football pitch, tennis courts, and UCA’s Sports Dome offers indoor athletics year-round. Phase I of the campus can accommodate 150 students.

Students majoring in Economics (BA), and Earth and Environmental Science (BSc) are enrolled at the Khorog campus in Tajikistan.

To prepare the campus site for construction, UCA cleared and crushed up to 160,000 m² of rock. The cleared land houses UCA buildings and the crushed stone is used as base material for roads and buildings, manufacturing of concrete and general use in the construction of the Khorog campus.

In 2015, UCA formally secured a loan to advance construction. Alongside a US$64.4 million commitment from the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), including US$7.5 million from the Aga Khan Foundation, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the United States Government's development finance institution extended US$30 million to complete Phase I construction of its Khorog campus.

The University's School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) learning centre in Khorog was officially opened in October 2006. The 1,403m² building houses. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art learning technologies, two computer laboratories, six classrooms and a 44,453-volume library. The School has become a leading provider of adult and continuing education, reaching over 78,000 learners in Tajikistan, and over 11,200 learners in Afghanistan through its cross-border programmes as of June 2019.
