Farrukh worked as a leading researcher at the V. I. Nikitin Institute of Chemistry at the Republic of Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, where he investigated and published articles on chemical composition and biological activity of the essential oils from aromatic plants growing in Tajikistan. He has also taught bioorganic and physical colloid chemistry at the Medical State University named after Abuali ibn Sino in Tajikistan and was a Visiting Researcher at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany and at Alabama University in Huntsville, USA. His diverse research interests include the study of biogenic natural products, medicinal plants, isolation active compounds, mass spectroscopy, catalysis and sorption.
