Planning to apply to top universities in a year?

Join the University of Central Asia’s (UCA)’s Summer Camp, a three week residential academic enrichment camp for talented Grade 10 students from Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan.

Held on the shores of beautiful Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, this camp offers great opportunities to improve your English and maths and receive critical support to enter the university you want.

Am I eligible?

The camp is open to all current Grade 10 students living in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Admissions will be a merit-based process.

How do I apply?

To gain admission, interested students will sit for a short entrance exam in English comprehension, maths and logic. Testing will be held at designated centres in cities across the three countries. Please bring a copy of your passport, student ID or birth certificate for identification purposes.

What will I learn at the UCA Summer Camp?

  • Attend English and mathematics enrichment classes led by teachers from the USA, Canada and the UK;
  • Acquire information and skills to increase your chances of attending world class universities and set realistic educational and career goals;
  • Have fun, make new friends and explore the beautiful surroundings of Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan;
  • Spend time with university students from around the world who will serve as mentors;
  • Gain a taste of what it will be like to attend UCA;
  • Have an opportunity to explore different intellectual, extra-curricular and career possibilities;
  • Be linked to a mentor in Canada or the USA to advise you on how to prepare for a world-class education. This mentorship relationship will begin in September 2015 via Skype.

How will I spend my time?

Building English and maths skills
Participants will spend three hours daily studying English and one hour studying maths. The UCA Summer Camp curriculum is designed by Canadian and American educational experts and adapted to fit the needs of Central Asian students. The goal is to upgrade students to attain internationally competitive levels in English and maths and ensure they are ready for a world-class university education.

Enhancing your success with university applications
Participants will have the opportunity to attend special sessions by experts and receive information about how to:

  • Apply to university;
  • Choose a programme to study based on career interests; and
  • Prepare for university entrance exams, essays and interviews.

Engage in non-academic activities
Other activities will be organised in English, giving participants an opportunity to practice their new skills, including:

  • Sports
  • Debating
  • Drama
  • Careers night
  • Movie night
  • Music night
  • Meeting university professors from abroad and from Central Asia
  • Excursions to explore the striking beauty around Lake Issyk-Kul

Who will teach me?

UCA Summer Camp classes will be taught by an international team of experienced, excellent and engaging teachers. English teachers are native speakers with extensive experience teaching English as a foreign language. The Maths teacher is experienced in teaching Maths in Central Asia and will ensure participants improve their grasp of mathematical concepts as well as problem solving skills.

Ten trained camp counselors will coordinate non-academic camp activities and provide supervision. They are native English, Tajik, Kyrgyz and Kazakh speakers.

What will I gain after completing the Summer Camp?

In addition to new skills, a great experience and a personal mentor, all participants will receive a UCA certificate of participation for attending the camp. There will also be Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates for the best candidates.

How much does it cost?

The Summer Camp costs $1,300 per student.  Every student who is selected to attend the summer camp and comes to Issyk-Kul will receive a $1,000 scholarship.  The final cost will be $300. A limited amount of additional financial assistance is available.  Please send an email to explaining your request.

Where is the UCA Summer Camp?

Sinegorie Pansionat, Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan. The Sinegorie Resort is located on the Northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Korumdu village (171 km from Bishkek).

Is it safe?

UCA is committed to providing its camp participants with a safe and secure experience. The student-staff ratio will be five to one. Five campers will be cared for by one teacher, counselor or camp administrator. The Sinegorie Pansionat has a 30 year history of hosting and providing fun and safe educational camp experiences. Sinegorie provides 24-hour security, a lifeguard during daylight hours and two site managers.

How will I get there? 

Discounted transportation will be provided from Tajikistan (Dushanbe / Khorog), Kyrgyz Republic(Naryn / Bishkek) and Kazakhstan (Astana / Almaty / Tekeli) to Issyk-Kul.
