Central Asia Exceeds Global Suicide Rate
A 30-year literature review on suicide in Central Asia was presented at a Public Lecture organised by the University of Central Asia’s Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU) in Dushanbe (Tajikistan) on July 3rd. The lecture on Suicide in Central Asia: A Systematic Study of Risk and Protective Factors was delivered by Shahnaz Savani, Lecturer of Social Work at the University of Houston-Downtown (USA).

The Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI) of the University of Central Asia's (UCA) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) began its Second Summer School on ‘Learning Landscapes through Environmental Research and Monitoring” on July 3rd at UCA for 22 undergraduate and master’s students from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Boosting Tourism Development in Tekeli
The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) conducted a training for 25 tour guides in Tekeli (Kazakhstan) from June 25th to July 3rd 2019. Participants completed 72 hours of training, including both practical and theoretical knowledge, and was aimed at developing internal and external tourism services in the region.

Kyrgyz Labour Market Not Ready for Growing Youth Population
Research at the University of Central Asia (UCA) has highlighted several areas that require immediate attention to mitigate high unemployment among youth in Kyrgyzstan. UCA’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) presented the findings of an assessment study on the “Labour Market for Youth in Kyrgyzstan” on June 20th 2019 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event brought together representatives of state ministries and agencies, international organisations, and non-governmental organisations.
