UCA Helps Farmers Put New Life in Tired Soil
UCA and Aga Khan Agency for Habitat hold Second Summer University on Disaster Risk Management
Over 20 participants from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India and the United States came together for the second international Summer University on Disaster Risk Management in Khorog, Tajikistan. Held from June 16-28, the Summer University is organised by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) and the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI) and conducted in collaboration with the University of Bern of Switzerland and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna.

Rare Minerals Donated to UCA
Dr. Farrukh Iskandarov, mineralogist with the Main Department of Geology of the Republic of Tajikistan visited the University of Central Asia's (UCA) Khorog campus in June. He toured the campus facilities, became acquainted with the construction of the Geology Lab, and met with Dr. Diana Pauna, Dean of UCA’s School of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. David Rodgers, UCA’s Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at UCA. During the visit, Dr. Iskandarov donated a microscope (valued at $1,500) and rare minerals to UCA.
SPCE Students Win International Mental Math Olympiad
Twenty-three mental math students from the University of Central Asia's School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) in Naryn and Khorog competed in the 5th International Olympiad in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul on June 15 alongside over 600 participants (4 to 16 years old) from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The Olympiad was organised by the “Akademiya Rosta” Development of Intellectual Property Centre.
UCA Contributes to the Development of Museums in Kyrgyzstan
Trends in modern museums was the main theme of a workshop organised on June 15 at the Naryn historical-ethnographic museum by the University of Central Asia’s Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU). Over 20 employees from Naryn regional museums learnt about how museums are embracing new trends and technologies, as well as from the trainers’ practical experience, and discussed innovative ideas for new exhibitions.
Ninety Students Graduate from SPCE in Naryn
The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) in Naryn (Kyrgyzstan) held its 6th Graduation Ceremony on June 14th, recognising 90 graduates (70% women). Learners successfully completed SPCE programmes and courses including the Academic Achievement Programme (AAP), accounting technology, International Computer Driving License, Russian, English and German languages, Mental Math, and the National Test (ORT) Preparatory programme in Naryn, as well as in At-Bashy village and Naryn districts.

Naryn Leadership Laud AKDN’s Contribution
A delegation from the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), led by Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, Diplomatic Representative of AKDN Kyrgyzstan and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the University of Central Asia (UCA), and including Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Rector of UCA, briefed Naryn town councilors and senior officials of the Municipality on current and potential AKDN programmes in the Naryn Oblast on May 29th.
