Despite numerous scientific works by national and foreign scientists, the origin of sedentary Pamir-Badakhshan peoples in very distant times remains to be a quite controversial and contradictory question. In ancient times, they lived on the vast territory of the Roof of the World (Poji Mekhr), from Darvaz to Alai, Sarykol and Munchan, which now belong to other states. In ancient times (VII - VI centuries BC), these East Iranian-speaking peoples (the Saks) occupied the vast territory of Central Asia. As for the ethic groups of Pamir itself, as sedentary farmers they separated from other ethnic groups in I-II millennium BC. It can be assumed that at that time they spoke the same proto-language. The forthcoming report will outline how close Pamir languages are to the proto-language of the Iranian group and, more broadly, the Indo-European family of languages; the impact of other Iranian languages on Pamir languages, other controversial issues and the prerequisites for emergence of Pamir languages, as well as periodization of these languages’ history. Professor Alamshoev is an author of 6 monographs and over 150 scientific and popular works on various linguistic questions. His scientific works are widely known outside of Tajikistan.

Mukbilsho Alamshoev is a prominent scientist in the field of linguistics. In 1992 he defended his Candidate thesis on The System of Pronouns in the Shugnan Language. In 2002, he defended his Doctoral thesis in St. Petersburg on Shugnan Livestock Lexis in Ethnolinguistic and Comparative-historical Aspect. In 2010, he received the title of a Professor in the Tajik language department of the Khorog State University.
