May 28th 2018, 18:00 - 19:30
Dr Piotr Lorens
Head, Department of Urban Design and Regional Planning,
Faculty of Architecture, Gdansk University of Technology
Cities are in search for various solutions allowing them to gain a better position in local, national and international development. One of the strategies is associated with building strong ties with research and higher education institutions, allowing simultaneous growth of both entities. In many cases, this partnership may be extremely beneficial for cities, as – despite all economic and social benefits – cities can gain professional advice and build partnerships with various entities through cooperation with both institutions and individual professionals, often offering unique expertise and wider outlook to the problems and issues.
Several issues associated with cooperation between municipalities and universities will be tackled during the lecture. There will be a special focus on city planning and development, within which the experience of cooperation between Gdansk University of Technology and Polish municipalities will be discussed. In addition, issues associated with developing and implementing the concepts of "smart and attractive cities" will be widely discussed.
