Tekeli Tynisi - Human Capital is a Foundation For Modernisation
The University of Central Asia hosted a meeting to discuss a new initiative, titled “Education Improvement Programme” on May 3rd 2018 in Tekeli, Kazakhstan.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Tekeli, Bakhtiyar Unerbaev, Head of the Oblast Department of Education, Dauren Junisov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Jetisu State University, Lazzat Jangusurova, Head of SPCE-Kazakhstan, Raikhan Sissekenova, Head of the Municipal Department of Education, Zukhra Igembaeva, and the Head of the Education Improvement Programme (EIP) at UCA, Dr Bernadette Dean.
The meeting was preceded by a tour around the facility, during which the guests were briefed about the preparation for the construction of UCA’s campus. At the meeting the participants were informed that EIP engages 20 secondary schools in each of the three Founding States of the University: the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan will be represented by schools from Almaty Oblast, one of which is located in the city of Tekeli – Secondary School #8. The main goal of the Programme is to enhance students’ academic achievements and opportunities for entry to high-quality universities, be work ready and equipped for responsible citizenship.
EIP will facilitate teacher professional development to ensure effective delivery of programme outcomes. In time, in each selected district an EIP school will be chosen to become a ‘District Resource School’, to serve as a hub whose experience will be shared more widely with other schools. In so doing, it will contribute to improving the quality of education, and promote the social and economic development of Central Asia.
The new initiative was welcomed by all participants of the meeting, and in the near future they will sign respective memorandum of cooperation. In mid-May, the staff of the Programme will conduct situation analysis of five pilot schools of Almaty Oblast, and by the next academic year, the Programme will get up to speed.
