The University of Central Asia (UCA) is pleased to announce its Central Asian Faculty Development Programme’s (CAFDP) MPhil/PhD scholarship programmes at its partner institutions – University of Cambridge and German universities.

1. University of Cambridge (through the Cambridge Overseas Trust)
UCA in partnerships with the University of Cambridge (through the Cambridge Overseas Trust) provides scholarships for Master (leading to PhD programmes) and PhD students in the following disciplines: Asian and Middle Eastern studies, biochemistry, chemistry, development studies (economics), economics, mathematics, physics, and sociology. Applications in physics and development studies (economics) are particularly encouraged.

2. German universities in partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
UCA-DAAD partnership provides scholarships for Master (leading to PhD programmes) and PhD students in the following disciplines at German Universities: applied mathematics, applied physics, archaeology, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computing science, economics, engineering sciences (environmental engineering, complex systems analysis and design), environmental sciences and environmental earth sciences, ethnography, geology, natural resource management and sociology.

While the application and selection process for these scholarship programmes varies, all applicants are required to meet the eligibility criteria put forth by UCA and the admission criteria at the partner institution. Interested applicants can visit UCA partner institutions’ websites for additional information. Applicants from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please send your application inquiries by e-mailing facultydev@ucentralasia.org. All documents must be received no later than Monday, 1 November 2010, 5PM. Earlier submission of research proposals is encouraged.

CAFDP was created to ensure that scholars from Central Asia with top international academic credentials are strongly represented in the UCA’S future faculty. Successful doctoral graduates of CAFDP will be given preferential consideration for academic appointments in the UCA’s Graduate School of Development and/or undergraduate School of Arts and Sciences.
