Canadian Ambassador Visits University of Central Asia in Naryn
The Canadian Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E Shawn Steil, visited the University of Central Asia (UCA) in Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic on 2 October 2014, accompanied by the Embassy’s Counsellor, Ms Catherine Ivkoff and Dr Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in the Kyrgyz Republic and Chair of the UCA Board Executive Committee and Mr Grant Robertson, UCA Director of Construction.. Since 2012, Canada and Canadian institutions have provided substantial support for the University.
Institute of Public Policy and Administration Hosts Seminar on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Tajikistan
The University of Central Asia’s Institute for Public Policy and Administration (UCA IPPA) held a seminar on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 19 September 2014. IPPA presented the results of its research on MSMEs in Tajikistan, with a focus on recommendations to unlock their growth potential. The research and seminar were conducted within the framework of the Small and Medium Enterprise Growth Project for Central Asia, an initiative of USAID and the Aga Khan Foundation.
Continuing Education Unit inaugurated by Badakhshan University, University of Central Asia and Aga Khan Foundation, Afghanistan
A new Continuing Education Unit at Badakhsan University (BU) was opened by the Afghan Minister of Higher Education, His Excellency Mr Obaidullah Obaid on 9 August 2014. Also in attendance was the Governor of Badakhshan, Mr Shah Waliullah Adeeb .
Independent Directorate of Local Governance of Afghanistan and University of Central Asia Sign Memorandum to Increase Capacity of Local Governance Staff
The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the University of Central Asia (UCA), which is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase the capacity of civil servants in Afghanistan through UCA’s Local Economic and Community Development (LECD) certificate programme.
UCA Board Executive Committee Visit Khorog Programmes and Governor of GBAO
During a two-day visit to Central Asia, the University of Central Asia (UCA) Board Executive Committee and senior members of UCA’s management toured the University’s main campus site and programmes in Khorog, Tajikistan. Accompanied by Akbar Ali Pesnani, Head of the Representation of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tajikistan, the Committee also visited AKDN projects, including Khorog City Park.
Summer School on Labour Markets in Central Asia
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the University of Central Asia’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration (UCA IPPA) conducted a summer school on Labour Markets in Central Asia from 13 to 25 July 2014 in Issyk Kul, Kyrgyz Republic.
Six Kyrgyz Youth Change the World!
‘Change the World Around You!’ is a social entrepreneurship competition for youth in Central Asia. The contest funds and trains young people to design and implement projects that will improve the quality of life in their communities
