Reporting to the Associate Director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology, the Instructional Designer conducts needs assessments, researches solutions, designs, implements and evaluates services and supports for faculty in the use of Moodle and other educational technologies. The Instructional Designer also assists the Associate Director of the CTLT with the creation of policies, processes and guidelines for the use of the course management system (Moodle) and the design and development of hybrid and online courses. You will advise on the use of tools and strategies for online teaching and learning and offer workshops about and support for the use of Moodle and other academic technology tools. This hands-on, supportive role is crucial to the successful implementation of outcomes-based learning and teaching, the use of innovative and creative practices in teaching and learning, and educational assessment and evaluation, both on-campus and online.

 Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage projects to ensure engaging hybrid and online teaching and learning experiences.
  • Advise on the use of tools and strategies for hybrid and online teaching and learning.
  • Assist with the creation of policies, processes and guidelines for distance and digital delivery.
  • Assist with the planning and creation of training and support resources for the use of educational technology tools to enable distance and digital learning.
  • Offer advice and guidance to academic staff in their selection and implementation of educational technologies to enhance the learning experiences of the students.
  • Support UCA faculty and staff in their use of the Moodle course management system, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and other technologies that mediate online learning and remote instruction and assessment
  • Respond to enquiries from faculty about the use of Moodle and other academic technology tools.
  • Contribute to the development of the overall CTLT operational plan
  • Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in education or a related field with two to four years of relevant experience
  • Teaching experience at the higher education level
  • Extensive knowledge of current trends and best practices in the use of educational technology tools to enhance student experiences
  • Experience with application of learning principles and appropriate instructional models, theories and best practices when designing, developing, and evaluating online and hybrid learning experiences
  • Experience in outcomes-based curriculum and course design
  • Advanced knowledge of the Moodle course management system, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and other technologies that mediate online learning and remote instruction and assessment
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Experience planning, implementing and evaluating professional development workshops
  • Excellent consultation, organization, project management, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, to work both independently and as part of a team

Languages

  • Proficient knowledge of English
  • Advanced knowledge of Russian, Kyrgyz, Tajik or Kazakh

Relationships

The postholder reports to the Associate Director of the CTLT.

Reporting to the Director, Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) the incumbent conducts needs assessments, researches solutions, designs, implements and evaluates programs, services and support to provide professional learning opportunities and on-the-job support for faculty. They provide advice on issues related to teaching & learning services and develop instructional tools and methods that support evidence-based practices in teaching and learning.
