Azamat is currently completing his PhD in Sustainable Rural Development at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague in the Czech Republic. His research involves small and medium farming system analysis in mountainous regions of Kyrgyzstan. Azarov is a Research Fellow with the University of Central Asia's Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI) since 2013. He has been involved in MSRI’s research projects in the fields of Food Security & Farming Systems and Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation in Kyrgyzstan. He is currently involved in MSRI’s research project aimed at introducing and promoting sweet potatoes offering new opportunities to reduce malnutrition and support food security in Tajikistan. Prior to joining UCA, Azarov taught agricultural marketing and provided translation assistance at Kyrgyz National Agricultural University in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He received his master degree in agricultural economics/management from the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf in Germany.
