Abstract
The lecture will focus on geological hazards typical for mountainous countries, with an emphasis on Kyrgyzstan. As a country with diverse terrain and a complex geological structure, Kyrgyzstan faces active development of exogenous geological processes, particularly in mountainous and foothill areas, where the majority of settlements are located.
In recent decades, geological hazards such as landslides have become increasingly frequent, posing serious dangers to the population and causing significant damage to the country's economy and environment. Kyrgyzstan has around 5,000 recorded landslides, most of which are concentrated in the south of the country. Approximately 600 settlements are situated in high-risk landslide zones, underscoring the relevance of this issue. According to international statistics, up to 80% of modern landslides result from human activity, highlighting the need to revise strategies for land use and territorial protection.
Special attention will be given to the tectonic activity of mountain systems, which is one of the main causes of geological hazards in Kyrgyzstan.
