Third SIPA regional webinar in Central Asia: Decarbonisation of Infrastructures: Challenges and Solutions for low-carbon energy systems in Central Asia and Mongolia

On June 13^th, 2024, the Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) of the UCA will host the 3^rd SIPA regional webinar in Central Asia on Decarbonisation of Infrastructures: Challenges and Solutions for low-carbon energy systems in Central Asia and Mongolia.

This 3^rd SIPA regional webinar on the decarbonisation of infrastructures in Central Asia will discuss challenges and solutions for decarbonising energy systems across the region, which are responsible for the larger share of greenhouse gas emissions (around 80% on average). It will provide a view of opportunities to develop renewable hydrogen, which is emerging as a potential low-carbon solution for reaching climate goals and achieving sustainable growth objectives in the region.

The webinar starts with a presentation by Luke Mackle (Economist, OECD) on Toward a Renewable Hydrogen Strategy in Mongolia, followed by a presentation by Dr Saule Zholdayakova (Head/Acting Director of Department of Alternative Energy) on Hydrogen in Kazakhstan: status quo and perspectives, and then by Ablay Dosmaganbetov (Research Fellow at IPPA) on Decarbonisation of energy in Central Asia.

The webinar contributes to implementing the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA) framework, led by Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and funded by the German Government: www.sipa-centralasia.org. The SIPA aims to help Central and Southeast Asian countries ensure energy, transport and industrial infrastructure investments aligned with low-emission development pathways compatible with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
