University of Central Asia
18 September 2025

The Aga Khan University Network of Quality, Teaching, and Learning (AKU QTL), in collaboration with the University of Central Asia’s Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT), successfully conducted a workshop titled “Alternative Assessment Modes for Online Learning” in May 2025. The workshop was attended by Aga Khan University faculty members from Pakistan.

The workshop addressed key challenges faced by educators, including accurately measuring learning outcomes, managing grading workloads, and adapting assessments in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). It was designed to support faculty in enhancing the quality and effectiveness of their online courses by providing practical strategies for assessment design.

Co-facilitated by CTLT, participants explored principles for designing robust assessment plans, integrating diverse assessment formats, providing formative feedback, promoting student reflection, and ensuring academic integrity while mitigating potential AI misuse.

Through hands-on activities and practical frameworks such as Bloom’s Taxonomy, participants developed actionable strategies for creating clearer, more effective, and meaningful assessments. As a result, faculty left the workshop equipped with tools and knowledge to implement innovative assessment practices in their own courses, ultimately improving student learning outcomes and engagement in online learning environments.
