The M.Sc. in Economics and Data Science (EDS) will be among the first in a new generation of postgraduate programmes at UCA, designed to equip future policy leaders with the analytical and digital skills needed to shape Central Asia’s future.
Bridging economic reasoning, data science, and public policy, the programme combines rigorous academic training with applied learning. Students will use data to inform decision-making, evaluate real-world policies, and craft solutions to the region’s most urgent challenges, from climate resilience and sustainable growth to digital transformation, financial inclusion, and regional development.

Frequently Asked Questions
Admissions for the M.Sc. in Economics and Data Science (EDS) are expected to open in May 2026, following completion of the licensing process with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic. UCA is also developing new programmes, including an M.Sc. in Climate Change and Mountain Systems and an M.A. in Heritage, Culture, and Society in Central Asia.
18-months (120 ECTS), delivered in person in Bishkek.
The programme is designed for graduates from diverse academic backgrounds, including economics, business, social sciences, and technical fields. It is suitable for early- to mid-career professionals in government, development organisations, research institutions, consulting, and the private sector. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient quantitative preparation.
Applicants must have:
- A recognised bachelor’s degree (minimum GPA 3.0/4.0 or equivalent)
- Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills (see below)
- English language proficiency (see below)
- Statement of purpose
- Two letters of recommendation

Yes. The application fee is $30.
The programme will be delivered in English. Applicants must provide proof of English proficiency (IELTS ≥ 6.5, TOEFL iBT ≥ 90 , Cambridge C1 Advanced or ≥ 176 , English-medium degree, or take the UCA English Test).

The EDS programme combines rigorous economic analysis with modern data science methods. Core coursework covers applied microeconomics and macroeconomics, statistics and econometrics, programming and computational methods, and machine learning and data analysis. Students develop applied research skills through integrated projects and a capstone research component. Elective courses allow students to deepen their expertise in areas relevant to their professional interests, including economic policy, development, and environmental and resource economics
The programme prepares graduates for analytical and leadership roles in economic policy, data science, development organisations, consulting firms, research institutions, and government and private sector institutions.

The first cohort is planned to begin in September 2026, subject to licensing approval by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Yes. All applicants must demonstrate quantitative and analytical readiness as part of the admission process. This requirement may be satisfied through a GRE or GMAT quantitative score, or by successfully passing the UCA Mathematics Proficiency Test. Applicants will be informed of the specific thresholds at the time admissions open.
Yes. A preparatory quantitative bootcamp will be offered prior to the start of the programme to support students who need additional reinforcement in mathematics and analytical methods.
