Muqaddas earned this distinction for her outstanding performance, a testament to her academic commitment and excellence. Following the award ceremony, Muqaddas shared her journey and aspirations in an interview with the UCA News Team.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Muqaddas, and I am currently a sophomore majoring in Global Economics at UCA. I have a strong passion for mathematics and economics as they provide tools to analyse and address real-world challenges. Last year, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in Discrete Mathematics, and this year, I have taken on the same role for Introduction to Microeconomics.
How did you feel when you were recognised as one of the top ten candidates by the National Testing Centre?
It was an honour and a deeply fulfilling moment. This recognition reflects the unwavering support I received from my family, professors, and friends. It motivates me to set even higher goals and give back to the community that has always supported me.
What were the key factors contributing to your success in the entrance examinations?
The key to my success was focusing on understanding concepts deeply rather than relying on rote memorisation. This approach not only prepared me for the exams but also laid a strong foundation for my academic studies. The encouragement and guidance from my teachers and family were invaluable. Consistency, resilience, and a positive mindset also played significant roles. Above all, I focused on doing my best with what I had and avoided worrying about factors beyond my control.
How has UCA’s School of Arts and Sciences influenced your academic and personal development?
My time at UCA has been transformative. The high-quality education has deepened my understanding of global economics and sharpened my analytical skills. The professors at UCA provide exceptional teaching and continuous support, encouraging critical thinking and academic growth. Beyond academics, I have had enriching experiences, such as working as a Teaching Assistant and interning with the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat through UCA. Furthermore, the university’s vibrant student life promotes collaboration and a strong sense of community, enabling me to grow academically, socially, and professionally.
Who has been most influential in supporting your academic journey?
My family, especially my parents and sister, have been my greatest supporters. My sister, Jonbegim, has provided invaluable guidance throughout my academic journey. I am also deeply grateful to my teachers at the Aga Khan Lycee and UCA’s School of Professional and Continuing Education for providing me with foundational knowledge, as well as to my UCA professors for their mentorship and encouragement.
What advice would you give to students aspiring to achieve similar recognition?
Success requires persistence, resilience, and continuous effort. My advice is to focus on understanding concepts deeply, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and surround yourself with supportive people. Celebrate small achievements, believe in your potential, and focus on what you can control. Hard work and determination will always pay off.
What are your long-term goals, and how will you use this achievement to impact your university and community?
My long-term goal is to contribute to my community and university through a career in economics and international development. After graduation, I plan to pursue graduate studies to gain the expertise needed to support initiatives promoting growth and progress in my country. I hope this achievement inspires others at UCA and in my community to strive for their goals and contribute to positive change.
This milestone reflects the excellence fostered by UCA’s School of Arts and Sciences and its commitment to nurturing future leaders who will make meaningful contributions to society.
