Problems of Studying Humanities in Central Asia in the Context of Cross-Disciplinary Research: Theory and Pedagogical Practice
In December 2024, The Aga Khan Humanities Project (AKHP) published the proceedings of its last three annual international conferences, titled Problems of Studying Humanities in Central Asia in the Context of Cross-Disciplinary Research: Theory and Pedagogical Practice (Almaty: Everest, 2024). Edited by Dr. Abdulmamad Iloliev and Dr. Pulat Shozimov, this volume presents articles by leading scholars and educators from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
It explores key directions in the development of research and pedagogical practices within AKHP and the broader educational context of Central Asia, both historically and contemporarily. The book is intended not only for specialists in the humanities and natural sciences but also for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as a general readership. The views expressed in the work are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the position of the University of Central Asia.
The book is divided into three chapters. Chapter One, The Aga Khan Humanities Project: Mission, Philosophy, Research, and Teaching, examines the conceptual approaches to studying the humanities in Central Asia. Chapter Two, Traditions and Change in the Modern World (Cross-Disciplinary Approach), addresses the evolution of history, culture, and traditions, presenting various methods of analyzing national cultures and traditions. Chapter Three, Approaches to the Humanities in Central Asia: Past, Present, and Future, discusses the pedagogical implementation of innovative humanities projects, with a focus on AKHP’s influence in the region.
