Deo Raj Gurung

Deo Raj Gurung is a Senior Advisor – Climate Resilience and Mountain Science at the University of Central Asia (UCA), based at the Central Asia Office in Bishkek.

Prior to joining UCA, Gurung served as Chief Scientist at the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH), where he provided leadership on science, research, and innovation to support community-level risk management and resilience-building programs across multiple countries. With over 25 years of experience, he specializes in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and geo-spatial science. His previous roles include positions at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Government of Bhutan.

Gurung holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Jadavpur University, India, and a Master of Science degree in Physical Geography/Geomorphology from Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan.
