Understanding the high mountains that sustain us
Often described as the “water towers of Central Asia”, glaciers are a vital source of freshwater for millions of people and ecosystems across the region.
For more than 25 years, Professor Denis Samyn has studied glaciers around the world. Today, he and his colleagues at UCA are advancing research on Central Asia’s high-altitude environments, sharing knowledge with scientists across the region to better understand and mitigate potential natural hazards.
