Alfia Zholdosheva — Turning Ideas into Impact

As a student at the University of Central Asia's Naryn Campus, Alfia Zholdosheva  became a driving force behind some of the university's most impactful student initiatives, from leading Enactus UCA and organising TEDxUCA to launching Shamdan, a youth empowerment initiative that reached hundreds of young people across the Naryn region.

"My first leadership role at UCA was with Enactus, and it didn't start because I was striving to be a leader. It happened because there was no one else willing to step up. I did it simply because someone had to."

Beyond campus, Alfia expanded her horizons through international experiences, including the Cambridge Summer Programme and the OSCE Model Central Asia. Among the many lessons she brought home, one stood out above all others.

"The biggest thing I learned there is that the best resource in any room is the people."

At Cambridge, she encountered learners from every stage of life, including participants in their eighties and nineties who continued to pursue knowledge simply because they loved learning. The experience fundamentally changed her perspective on education.

"I came to a simple but profound conclusion: education is not just a box to tick in your career. It's a lifelong process that should never end."

Perhaps the project closest to Alfia's heart is Shamdan. What began as a passing thought grew into a platform that delivered educational programs, mentorship opportunities, and community initiatives for young people across the region.

Looking back, she is proud not only of what was achieved, but of the possibility that those efforts may have changed someone's life.

"When the idea for Shamdan first came to me, it was nothing — just a passing thought. But looking back now, I realise that in a year and a half we accomplished so much."

The experience reinforced one of the most valuable lessons she learned at UCA.

"There are always people who will believe in your ideas. You just have to look for them."

As she prepares to graduate, Alfia hopes to pursue a career in business or data analysis while continuing her academic journey through research. She is particularly interested in exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping education in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, with plans to pursue graduate studies in the coming years.

Wherever that path leads, she carries forward a belief that has defined her years at UCA: that ideas matter, people matter, and meaningful change often begins with a single person willing to take the first step.
