Innovation in Action: UCA’s Computer Science Diploma Projects
The University of Central Asia is proud to spotlight the next generation of tech leaders emerging from our Computer Science programme - innovators who are applying cutting-edge technology with empathy, creativity, and a deep sense of social responsibility.
From a postpartum depression chatbot tailored to Kyrgyz-speaking mothers, to flood forecasting tools and farmer marketplaces - our students are building real solutions for real challenges. These final-year projects demonstrate how UCA is cultivating not just skilled coders, but changemakers with purpose.

“UmAI” — A Postpartum Depression Chatbot for Kyrgyz Mothers
By Aizhamal Zhetigenova
Postpartum depression (PPD) is underdiagnosed in Kyrgyzstan, often compounded by stigma and a lack of resources in local languages. UmAI - named after the Kyrgyz word for "mother" - is a culturally sensitive, AI-powered platform built entirely in Kyrgyz.
Highlights:
- Predicts PPD risk with 90%+ accuracy using CatBoost ML models trained on survey data from 108 mothers.
- Provides personalised guidance and 24/7 chatbot support in Kyrgyz.
- Fully anonymous and mobile-friendly, ensuring accessibility and privacy.
“It’s more than tech - it’s about trust and dignity for new mothers,” says Aizhamal.

Mental Health Services Web App for UCA Students
By Aisha Toichieva
- To remove barriers to mental health support at UCA, Aisha designed a user-centric web platform that replaced the paper sign-up sheets once used for counseling appointments.
Features include:
- 24/7 online scheduling with real-time calendars
- Private, secure access with UCA email verification
- Resource libraries and event tools for mental health outreach
- Fully responsive across devices
“It’s now easier - and safer - for students to seek the support they need,” says Aisha.

Flood Prediction & Early Warning System
By Aelina Daniyar kyzy
Using ensemble machine learning (Random Forest, LightGBM, XGBoost) combined with fuzzy logic, Aelina built a flood prediction model that delivers high-accuracy alerts up to 48 hours in advance.
Key technical features:
- Achieves 0.958 ROC AUC using Monte Carlo-simulated data
- Real-time forecasts delivered via FastAPI backend
- Visualised through an interactive React dashboard
This tool empowers Kyrgyz communities and emergency responders to act before disaster strikes.

AgroConnect: A Digital Marketplace for Kyrgyz Farmers
By Aizada Berdibekova
Aizada created AgroConnect, a Django-React platform that allows Kyrgyz farmers to sell fresh produce directly to consumers - cutting out the middleman, supporting rural livelihoods, and promoting local agriculture.
Platform highlights:
- Built using Django, React, PostgreSQL
- Easy onboarding for small-scale farmers
- Designed with rural connectivity and user experience in mind
“This project is about economic dignity—giving farmers a digital voice and fair access to markets.”
These students are redefining what it means to be a technologist in Central Asia: grounded in local realities, and global in impact.
