Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia: Trade Creation and Trade Diversion in Central Asia in 2010-2011
The paper discusses the impact of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia on trade flows in Central Asia from the point of view of trade creation and trade diversion. It finds that the growth of trade between the members of the Customs Union is mostly due to different exogenous factors unrelated to the Customs Union.
The paper also provides a rapid assessment of the Customs Union impact on different economic variables in Kazakhstan.
