Risk-Based Internal Audit Training at UCA Brings Together Regional Specialists
UCA hosted an intensive training course, "Risk-Based Internal Audit," organized by UCA's School of Professional and Continuing Education (UCA SPCE). The program brought together specialists from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and provided a platform for sharing experiences, professional development, and learning about international internal audit practices.
Over the course of five days, participants thoroughly explored the full internal audit cycle—from risk assessment and planning audit procedures to testing controls and preparing reports that facilitate effective management decision-making. Particular attention was paid to the practical application of international standards and the implementation of a risk-based approach in organisations.
Participants included representatives of leading companies and organizations from Kyrgyzstan, including DemirBank, Global Balance, Umai Group, and others, as well as specialists from Tajikistan, including representatives of Tcell. The international participants facilitated an active exchange of professional experience and best practices. The course instructor was Michael Smith, UCA's Director of Internal Audit and an international expert with over 30 years of experience. His practice-oriented approach and deep expertise made the training particularly valuable for the participants.
Shohimsulton, a representative of Tcell in Tajikistan, noted that the course allowed her to deepen her knowledge of modern international internal audit standards and gain practical tools for implementing new approaches in her work processes. "What was particularly valuable was that the program focused not only on theory but also on the practical application of knowledge. We mastered methods for implementing a risk-based approach and learned how to generate high-quality and structured audit reports," the participant shared.
Chymyrbayeva Aisuluu, a representative of Global Balance, also shared her impressions. According to her, the course was rich, informative, and highly practical. "The instructor not only has a deep understanding of the topic but also generously shares real-world tools and experience from international internal audit practice. “All the knowledge gained in the course can be applied in work today,” Aisuluu noted.
