The University of Central Asia proudly celebrates the achievement of Sitora Mirzoeva, Senior Lecturer in Economics at the School of Arts and Sciences, who has been recognised as an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Prize Winner for the Audit and Assurance exam — achieving the highest score in Tajikistan and ranking 18th worldwide.

This accomplishment marks another important milestone in Sitora’s professional journey. To date, she has successfully completed nine ACCA exams and is now progressing to the strategic level of the globally recognised accounting and finance qualification.

Sitora’s interest in economics and finance began early in life while helping her family sell groceries at a local market in Khorog together with her sister. What started as a small family initiative gradually developed into a business experience that introduced her to entrepreneurship, financial management, and customer relations from a young age.

“These early experiences shaped my understanding of business and responsibility,” Sitora recalls. “They also inspired my interest in economics and finance as a profession.”

After graduating from Tajik Technological University with a degree in Economics and Finance, Sitora joined UCA’s School of Professional and Continuing Education in Khorog as a Business Instructor, beginning what would become nearly two decades of service at the university. She later completed a Master’s degree in Finance with distinction at the Higher School of Economics in Saint Petersburg before joining UCA’s School of Arts and Sciences as a Lecturer in Economics.

Alongside her teaching and academic responsibilities, Sitora has continued pursuing professional development in accounting and finance through ACCA. Reflecting on the recent exam, she shared: “The Audit and Assurance exam was particularly challenging for me because it required strong analytical writing, professional judgment, and understanding of auditing standards. I also did not have prior practical experience in auditing, which made the achievement even more meaningful.”

Balancing full-time teaching, intensive ACCA preparation, and family responsibilities as a mother of five, Sitora’s journey reflects dedication, perseverance, and a strong commitment to lifelong learning.

“The most rewarding part of my work is seeing students grow, succeed, and build meaningful futures through education,” she says. “It is especially meaningful when former students share how their learning has helped them achieve their goals.”

Looking ahead, Sitora plans to continue her ACCA journey and pursue PhD studies to further strengthen her academic and research expertise. Her long-term goal is to contribute more deeply to education, research, and professional development in the region.

Reflecting on her years at UCA, Sitora describes the university as a place of belonging and growth.

Her success highlights UCA’s ongoing commitment to supporting faculty development, advancing internationally recognised professional expertise, and nurturing educators who inspire the next generation across Central Asia.
