UCA and Zhetysu University Explore Joint Research and Academic Opportunities
The University of Central Asia (UCA) and Zhetysu University are exploring opportunities for joint research, academic exchange and educational collaboration following a workshop held in Tekeli, Kazakhstan. The meeting brought together UCA representatives and around 30 colleagues from Zhetysu University, led by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Aleftina Bakhtaulova.
Building on the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions, the workshop focused on developing practical initiatives in research, education and international cooperation.
UCA representatives Saule Chalbasova, Nazgul Kuljigacheva and Aliyar Zhumagaliyev presented the University’s academic and research activities, shared approaches to identifying international research funding opportunities, and discussed the potential to expand professional and continuing education through UCA’s School of Professional and Continuing Education in Tekeli.
Zhetysu University presented its research in biodiversity, biotechnology, ecological monitoring, inclusive and digital education, ethnology and migration, as well as its international research partnerships. Discussions identified opportunities to develop joint research proposals, including collaboration on agricultural biotechnology, and to strengthen links between researchers at both institutions.
Potential areas of cooperation also include research and mentorship opportunities for doctoral students, internships for Zhetysu University students, and joint academic events. Through its Sustainable Mountain Development Programme, UCA will explore opportunities to support workshops, public lectures and conferences, as well as collaboration through regional and international platforms addressing sustainable development and mountain-related challenges.
“We see strong potential to connect researchers, support early-career academics and PhD students, develop joint research proposals and create opportunities for students to gain practical experience,” said Saule Chalbasova, UCA’s Strategic Project Manager.
The workshop marks a further step in strengthening UCA’s engagement in Kazakhstan and developing a mutually beneficial partnership with Zhetysu University. By combining their research expertise and academic networks, the two institutions aim to create opportunities for collaboration that support knowledge exchange, research development and sustainable regional development.
