Green Debate Tournament 2025: Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future across UCA Campuses
The University of Central Asia’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) hosted the Green Debate Tournament 2025 across its Naryn (Kyrgyzstan) and Khorog (Tajikistan) campuses — uniting over 50 young voices from across Central Asia to debate, collaborate, and act for a sustainable future.
Organised in partnership with the Green Deal for Central Asian Universities, the tournament brought together students from local schools and the University of Central Asia, to build awareness of pressing environmental challenges while strengthening leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Inspiring Dialogue, Shared Commitment
Across both campuses, the two-day tournaments followed the British Parliamentary format, engaging participants in lively debates on sustainability, climate change, and environmental governance.
In Naryn, debates were held in three languages - English, Kyrgyz, and Russian - with sessions complemented by a Public Reflection Wall, where students and visitors shared personal pledges for a greener future.
Meanwhile, in Khorog, participants debated diverse topics ranging from recycling and environmental economics to sustainable resource use, exchanging ideas that connected theory to real-world impact.
Voices from the Campuses
Naryn participants highlighted the inclusive and inspiring atmosphere:
“I learned so much and made many new friends. UCA created such a warm and welcoming environment,” shared Ademi Ernisova
“It was inspiring to discuss real ideas that could improve our country’s environment. Sustainable development is only possible when innovation meets responsibility,” said Adelya Zholdoshbekova, 17.
In Khorog, students reflected on the power of debate to spark action:
“It allowed us to explore both sides of key environmental issues and apply new perspectives to our studies and everyday life,” said Nuriya Otambek, Class of 2028, Earth and Environmental Science student.
Youth Leadership for Central Asia’s Green Future
The Green Debate Tournament reaffirmed UCA’s commitment to environmental awareness, civic engagement, and youth empowerment across its campuses.
Through thoughtful discussion and collaboration, participants not only enhanced their public speaking and analytical skills but also strengthened their resolve to contribute to a more sustainable and responsible future for Central Asia.
Congratulations to all participants, judges, volunteers, and organisers for making this regional initiative a success. Together, they continue to prove that youth voices are vital in shaping a greener tomorrow.
