Message From Rector’s Office on International Geographic Information System (GIS) Day 2025
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become an integral part of everyday life - from grocery shopping and visiting a doctor to leisure travel, water supply planning, and road construction. This year’s International GIS Day theme, “Geo-Generalist Era: Where Spatial Meets Everything,” highlights the omnipresence of GIS technology in our lives.
GIS has enabled us to analyze and visualize complex, multi-layered challenges by integrating diverse datasets into a single spatial framework, paving the way for innovative solutions. At the University of Central Asia (UCA), GIS plays a pivotal role in climate research, hazard and risk mapping, urban planning, natural resource management, and cultural heritage projects.
Leading the way, UCA is partnering with the State Institution of Geodesy and Cartography of Kyrgyz Republic to host Kyrgyzstan’s first-ever International GIS Day on 19 November 2025 in Bishkek. This day-long capacity-building event will celebrate GIS’s transformative impact and promote its benefits to broader communities.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Environmental Systems Research Institute for their invaluable support on our GIS journey.
