Voices and Faces of UCA: Rahat Akylova
As part of the University of Central Asia’s 25th anniversary celebration, we are sharing the stories of staff members who have helped shape the University’s journey over the years. One of them is Rahat Akylova, Manager of Academic Affairs at UCA’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) in Naryn, whose career with the institution spans nearly two decades.
“My journey began in 2006 when I interviewed for the position of English Language Instructor at SPCE,” Rahat recalls.
From Instructor to Academic Leader
After joining SPCE, she taught English and Business English and, in 2007, became a Senior English Language Instructor in Naryn. Over the years, she has been involved in teaching, curriculum development, and student support, helping learners acquire valuable knowledge and skills.
In January 2024, Rahat was appointed Manager of Academic Affairs at SPCE Naryn.
“For me, this was not simply a career advancement,” she says. “It was an opportunity to make an even greater contribution to educational programmes and to support quality education in the region.”
The True Reward: Student and Regional Success
One of the most rewarding aspects of her work has been witnessing the success of former students.
“I am especially proud when graduates thank us for the knowledge and skills they gained and share their achievements. It is inspiring to see how education helps people change their lives for the better.”
Rahat also takes pride in representing UCA SPCE at important events and professional gatherings.
“When our work is recognised, when people trust us and acknowledge SPCE’s contribution to education and society, it reinforces the importance of our mission and motivates us to keep moving forward.”
A Mission Rooted in Community and Growth
For Rahat, UCA is far more than a workplace.
“It is a place of professional growth, personal development, and service to society through education. Here I can help people while continuing to grow both as an educator and as a manager.”
She also highlights the importance of the colleagues who have accompanied her throughout this journey.
“UCA has become a part of my life thanks to the wonderful colleagues with whom I work toward a common goal. It is a place where ideas are born, projects are realized, and opportunities are created for many people.”
Two Decades of Transformation
Having witnessed SPCE’s growth firsthand, Rahat reflects on the remarkable transformation of the institution over the years.
“The number of staff has increased, our geographic reach has expanded, and the number of students and graduates has grown significantly. We now offer a much wider range of courses, programmes, and learning opportunities.”
Today, SPCE’s impact on local communities extends far beyond what it was twenty years ago. Through education, professional training, and skills development, it continues to create opportunities for individuals and contribute to community development across the region.
Looking to the Future
Looking ahead, Rahat remains optimistic about the future.
“I wish UCA continued success, sustainable growth, and many new achievements. May our educational initiatives continue to transform lives through quality education, open new opportunities, and inspire future generations.”
Nearly twenty years after her first interview, Rahat continues to pursue the same purpose that brought her to UCA: creating opportunities through education and helping communities thrive.
