UCA Officially Launches Master’s Programme in Economics and Data Science
The University of Central Asia (UCA) officially launched its first Master of Science (MSc) in Economics and Data Science programme at a special event attended by representatives of government agencies, international organisations, the private sector, and the academic community.
During the event, UCA presented the programme’s structure and curriculum, its practical focus, and opportunities for professional development. Participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the study format, career prospects, and potential collaboration with organisations across the region.
“Today, economies and societies generate more data than ever before, while the decisions facing governments, businesses, and civil society organisations are becoming increasingly complex. We need professionals who understand how economies work, can analyse data, and, most importantly, are able to critically assess information and use it to make well-informed decisions. These are the skills that the new programme is designed to develop,” said UCA Rector Professor Christopher Gerry.
The two-year programme is delivered in English in Bishkek and comprises 120 ECTS credits. Its curriculum combines economics, mathematics, statistics, programming, data analysis, machine learning, and research methods. Particular attention is given to applying these skills to real-world economic and social challenges in Central Asia.
"The launch of this programme is an important step towards advancing modern education and preparing professionals equipped to meet the demands of the digital economy. The international environment of the University of Central Asia, which brings together students and faculty from different countries, is particularly valuable. It contributes to academic collaboration and the development of a professional community capable of addressing the common challenges facing our region,” said Ainura Israilova, Head of the Department of Higher, Secondary Professional and Postgraduate Education at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The programme also provides opportunities for engagement with government agencies, international organisations, businesses, and other institutions. Students will have opportunities to work with real-world data, contribute to applied research, and build professional networks.
