Finalists of International Economics Olympiad from Kyrgyzstan Named
UCA's Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA), in partnership with the Economic Fundamentals Initiative (EFI), hosted the second round of the International Economics Olympiad in Kyrgyzstan. This event, a key component of the Economic Literacy project, aimed to foster economic understanding among high school students across the country.
Out of 2,871 students from 272 schools who participated in the first round, 38 students made it to the second round. Now, five winners will proudly represent Kyrgyzstan in the final round of the International Olympiad in Greece in autumn 2024.
“As we mark the successful completion of our second Economics Olympiad year, I am delighted by the growing interest from schools and students. With the upcoming finals in Greece, all attention is on our finalists, hopeful for their strong showing and representing us well,” says Kemel Toktomushev, IPPA’s Senior Research Fellow.
Barsbek Baiyshbekov, an Olympiad finalist, says: “I prepared with the book 'Common Sense of Economics,' and fortunately, I managed to reach the final. I have a great interest in economics, and while preparing for the Olympiad, I was able to learn a lot about its rich history.”
The International Economics Olympiad, supported by EFI, for school children, aims not only to elevate general awareness of the importance of economics and finance in our everyday lives but also to provide an opportunity for the most talented children to showcase their skills and compete with other students from around the world. By participating in the Olympiad, students can gain valuable experience and develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
