The University of Central Asia (UCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, marking a significant step towards enhancing digital skills and fostering sustainable development in Kyrgyzstan and across Central Asia. The MoU was signed by Professor Christopher Gerry, Acting Rector of UCA, and Mr Zamirbek Kozhomuratov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development (MDD) of the Kyrgyz Republic.

While signing the MoU, Professor Gerry remarked: "The MoU we are signing today reflects our shared commitment to cooperation and mutual benefit. Under this MoU, we agree to work together to establish partnerships and develop long-term, effective collaboration aimed at implementing joint projects in the field of digitalisation."

The MoU further strengthens UCA’s on-going collaboration with the MDD in the area of digitalisation. In 2023, UCA, as part of the MDD’s Digital CASA - KR project, trained over 1,800 civil servants, 64% of whom were women, in IT areas such as database analysis, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), data privacy, and electronic document management systems. Additionally, 200 government officers passed the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) test, the world's leading computer skills certification.
