U.S. Embassy Representatives Visit University of Central Asia’s Learning Centre in Khujand
The University of Central Asia’s Learning Centre (LC) in Khujand welcomed guests from the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe. Ms. Heather Beggd, Public Diplomacy Officer, and Ms. Tahmina Niyazova, English Teaching Mentor (ETM) Program representative, paid an introductory visit to the Centre.
They met participants of the upcoming English for Journalists course, gained firsthand insight into the Centre’s educational programmes, and explored opportunities for continued collaboration. The gathering brought together 21 local journalists - future course participants - along with media representatives and UCA Khujand LC staff.
During the meeting, Ms. Heather Beggd expressed her appreciation for the commitment of Khujand’s media professionals to professional development and educational growth. She shared her positive impressions of Khujand city and underlined the Embassy’s support for initiatives that strengthen the local media community.
The event featured an open and engaging discussion session. Journalists posed questions about their career development prospects following course completion, as well as the potential for participation in international exchange and networking programmes for media representatives.
Adding to the conversation, Ms. Masumakhon Sharipova, ESL instructor at UCA Khujand LC, proposed the establishment of Conversational English courses for representatives of NGOs and public organisations. She emphasised the growing demand for English language skills to support grant writing, project management, and international reporting activities.
The visit reaffirmed the ongoing partnership between the U.S. Embassy and UCA Khujand LC, offering a valuable platform for strengthening ties and discussing future educational initiatives.
