In a collaborative effort to tackle the growing challenges of climate change and public health, the University of Central Asia (UCA) and Osh State University convened a round table in Osh, Kyrgyzstan bringing together experts, researchers, and policymakers. The discussions centered on the intersection of climate change, water security, ecosystem health, and sustainable development in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia.

The event featured insightful presentations from UCA and Osh State University experts, highlighting regional environmental conditions, adaptation strategies, and policy recommendations. Speakers explored the far-reaching impacts of climate change on water resources, biodiversity, and public health, underscoring the urgent need for evidence-based policies and cross-sector collaboration.

“The round table fostered meaningful dialogue among key stakeholders, offering valuable insights into adaptation strategies and policy recommendations to support sustainable development,” said Saule Chalbasova, UCA’s Strategic Projects Manager. “As climate change continues to pose significant challenges, events like this help strengthen regional cooperation and informed decision-making.”

This event is part of UCA’s broader Sustainable Mountain Development Programme (SMD), which spans its founding states—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Through a series of events, the SMD Programme addresses pressing regional issues such as climate resilience, glacier preservation, and the integration of traditional knowledge in climate adaptation.
